Schiermonnikoog ObSurfing Trip!!!
Organized by: Star Gazing Committee
Join us for a weekend trip to Schiermonnikoog, combining daytime adventure and nighttime astronomy! Together with the Armstrong committee, we’ll spend the days enjoying activities like surfing, and once the Sun sets, we’ll head out to the island’s dark skies for stargazing. We’ll be camping on the island, making it a relaxed weekend of nature, science, and (hopefully) good company.
We’ll be staying at the beautiful Camping Seedune. We’ll spend two nights under some of the darkest skies in the Netherlands, perfect for stargazing, astrophotography, and simply enjoying the night sky together. We will be getting there by boat from Lauwersmeer, travelling together at 15:30, and returning on the afternoon boat as well. You can get to the harbour either with a 30-minute bus from Groningen or by car (you do have to pay for parking, though, if you're not helping with the organisation of the event) - if you wish to arrange your own transport instead, please contact Lena (WhatsApp: +48 783 348 358)
During the day, the island offers plenty of activities. In collaboration with the Armstrong committee, you can join in on surfing, and we’ll also organise group activities such as living stratego and more. The campsite will be our central hub throughout the weekend.
We will be camping, and food will be provided, so you can focus on enjoying the experience. If you have your own telescope, camera, or other observing gear, feel free to bring it - transport assistance is available if needed. Don’t have a tent? No problem; we will do our best to match you with someone who does.
All that remains is to hope for clear skies - please direct all weather-related prayers accordingly. Backup dates are secured in case conditions are truly uncooperative.
